The World Stored In An iPod Soon
Since 1982, the price of data storage has fallen by a factor of 3.6 million, according to Google's Sukhinder Singh Cassidy
I have always been very interested in technology and the accumulation of human knowledge. For instance, it took all 6,000 years of human history until the late 1800's for knowledge to double. And then less than 50 years to double again!
Then the gap closed very dramatically. It took only 10 years after that to double again. Keep in mind, every time the amount of human knowledge doubles, it's actually exponential in nature because you're building on everything we learned in the past, in addition to everything new that we learn in a completely lesser time period.
After that knowledge doubled again every 5 years and for the last 10 or 15 years it's been doubling again and again every 2 years. I'm reasonably certain we're under the 2 year span of everything we know doubling again!
Not to belabor the subject, but the article below really struck my interest because now not only is human knowledge increasing at an astronomical rate, as prophesied in the Bible, but we now have the technology to actually place ALL of the previous years doubling of human knowledge onto a simple hand held PDA like the iPod!
Utterly FANTASTIC!, to say the least.
So without further ado, please take a look at the article below from ComputerWorld.com, it will blow your mind!

December 13, 2007 (CIO) — In the foreseeable future, all the world's content will fit in the palm of your hand, according to Google, which made some fascinating IT predictions at the 2007 Captains of Industry Conference held in Singapore in November.
The forecasts came from Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, the vice president of Google's Asia-Pacific and Latin America operations. She told attendees of the conference, called "Innovation Drives Growth & Creates Opportunities in the Marketplace," that since 1982, the price of data storage has fallen by a factor of 3.6 million.
"To put that in context for you, if gas prices fell by the same amount, today a gallon of gas would take you around the earth 2,200 times," she said.
"More importantly, if this trend continues, and the cost of storage continues to decrease, we estimate that somewhere around 2020, all the world's content will fit inside an iPod, and all the world's music would sit in your palm as early as 2015," Cassidy surmised, "rendering the CD format unnecessary."
Staggering content generation
"We estimate that everyday somewhere around 65,000 new videos are added to YouTube, 100,000 blogs … it's just staggering if you look at the rate at which content is being produced," the Google executive said.
Another factor that "makes this a right time for innovation and change is really the ubiquitousness of connectivity," Cassidy pointed out. "Whether it's through WAP or through SMS text messages, or whether it's through voice, the ability of people to ubiquitously connect with information at an unparalleled rate is another key factor driving this point in our evolution."
