The Apple iPhone 3G S is a phone that builds on the popularity of the first generation. It has all the apps and innovations we have come to love and provides a faster internet connection via the 3G or third generation wireless internet network. However this phone is mainly for people who haven’t yet purchased an iPhone yet. Most of the upgrades are already available on the firmware update; nonetheless, there are many design cues that will draw the neophyte to the Apple brand.
First off, there is the excellent call quality. Apple chose well in allying itself with AT&T wireless. It is a network with wide coverage and strong support so you get calls with great sound quality in both 2G and 3G. The only issue is that there are dropped calls from time to time. In the end, the call experience far outweighs this minor convenience especially as 3G becomes more refined.
The Apple iPhone 3G also enjoys great new design features. For example a previous complaint about the first model was the recessed headphone jack. This made it difficult to use headphones other than those manufactured by Apple. The new iPhone has resolved this in its design. The second model has also changed the back plating. Rather than the aluminum backing we came to expect from most hand held Apple devices, this current model has a plastic backing. This makes for a lighter phone. However, for those who like to text with their phone on a flat surface the rounded back may not be your cup of tea.
The biggest innovation is the App store. Rather than having to download from your computer like iTunes you can now purchase and download Applications directly from your iPhone. Hopefully we will see the same done for iTunes later. The Apps are growing in number further increasing the functionality of the Apple iPhone 3G S. This unique feature continues to make it the most versatile phone on the market.
The second generation model has the other features that we have come to expect from an iPhone. There is still the integrated iPod media player with its astonishing sound and video quality. The display is still the visually stunning 3.5 inch Liquid Crystal Display. A new innovation is that the storage options have changed. The current model now comes in 16 GB as well the traditional 8 GB options. The other storage options from the first model are now officially discontinued.
The great price is also another great thing about the iPhone 3G S. At $199 and $299 for the offered options it’s a great savings at the introductory price.
