iPhone News - 3G iPhone Now Available

Introduction: Well it finally happened, the new iPhone 3G is out. And it's enhanced with a number of new features including: twice the download speed with the new iPhone 3G technology; GPS maps with current traffic; email synching with Microsoft Exchange for business users; and access to the new iPhone Applications Store.

This new iPhone is definitely the ultimate iPod that Apple has produced and I have a feeling that these improvements are just for now and as the competition for cell phones increase, Apple will remain ahead of the pack in future developments.

Apple Inc. released information on an upgraded iPhone Monday June 9, 2008 with a faster internet connection and satellite navigation capabilities - priced $200 cheaper than current models, but with more expensive service fees.

Analysts have said Apple needed to cut the multimedia gadget's price and upgrade it to work 3G (third-generation) wireless networks to be able to hit the $10,000,000 target of Iphone sales by the end of 2008.

An 8 gigabyte will sell for $199 while the 16 gigabyte model sells for $299. They are set to hit the market on July 11, 2008. The devices will initially be sold in 22 countries, but Apple has made deals with wireless carriers in a total 70 countries to carry the new Iphone.<!–more–>

AT&T Inc., the exclusive U.S. carrier for the phone, said its plans for the phone will start at $39.99 per month, plus $30 for unlimited data. That is about $10 more than the cheapest plan for the first generation phone. Apple said the 3G Iphone downloads data twice as fast as the old one. Their were many complaints about the year-old Iphone's data download speeds, which can make simple tasks like sending e-mail or downloading internet videos painfully slow (I currently have the Apple iPod touch 8 GB with Software Upgrade).

Apple Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs said that when the original iphone was designed, the chips used on the faster network sapped too much battery life and were too bulky (funny how they didn't mention this when it first came out). The company decided to wait to improve the device until better chip technology emerged that could fit the new iphones slim design. How convenient that is just about a year later that this new design comes out after sales drop to 700,000 since March compared to 6,000,000 when it first came out.
