How to Un-Freeze your iPod

Nothing can be more frustrating than having your iPod freeze up on you.

I also own a Dell Axim PDA and every once in a while I have to push a recessed button on the back to reset it.

In the case of your iPod there are a few things you have to do in order to un-freeze it depending on if your iPod has a "Scroll" wheel or "Click" wheel.

    Click Wheel

  • First, remove it from the cradle then slide the "Hold" button on and off a couple of times.
  • Next, simultaneously hold down the "Center" and the "Menu" buttons for 5 to 8 seconds or until the Apple logo shows on the screen. You may be required to repeat repeat this step.
    Scroll Wheel

  • For older models that don't have the scroll wheel hold down the Play/Pause button in place of the Center button in the instructions above.

You may have to re-do some of your customized settings after resetting the iPod. Your music files, playlists or bookmarks should not be affected.

If you're unable to reset your iPod you may find additional help at yhe iTunes "iPod troubleshooting basics and service FAQ" page.
